We are fascinated by Dainippon Type Organization's hand-made wood blocks. The organization breaks Japanese Katakana, Hiragana and the alphabet into pieces to recompose the parts and produce new characters - they even create images of the terms they spell:
The New York Times has highlighted a trend in retail towards to smaller stores, in response to the economic crisis. We find the result to be a refreshingly traditional experience, in which shopfronts welcome the surrounding community with a more engaging style:
